I don't give into weather hype. But we've got -30 to -40°F windchills in the forecast, so keeping the animals safe is priority! We don't heat the chicken coop. But today I added some wind protection. Some of you may remember the free bags of wool we picked last Fall - and here they are coming in handy! The bottom of the coop on the north side is now blocked (other side is not, for ventilation purposes), and a wind-blocked feeding station has been created, along with a semi-insulated path from the coop to the feeding station. We'll keep the chickens locked in the run instead of free ranging until the winds pass.
